Insistence player set to join Sunderland – Move elsewhere quickly dismissed

Jordan Henderson could return to Sunderland this summer, 14 years after leaving them for the first time.

On Wednesday, De Telegraaf reported Ajax have decided to release the midfielder and he’s said goodbye to his teammates.

Algemeen Dagblad then reported the 35-year-old can move to FC Porto while he has options in England, without naming Sunderland or any other club.

The England international played under Francesco Farioli’s orders at the Eredivisie side. Ajax parted ways with the coach at the end of the season, and this allowed Porto to appoint the Italian as their new manager.

AD state Henderson shared a close bond with Farioli and the pair could reunite at the Primeira Liga club. A move back to England could also be an interesting option, and it’s long been considered Sunderland would be a great way to round off a brilliant career.

Meanwhile, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have wasted no time in dismissing the possibility of Porto signing the former Liverpool man.

Despite his good relationship with Farioli, they won’t be signing him because he’s not on their agenda.

O Jogo then state Henderson will return to Sunderland, as a matter of fact, who have secured promotion to the Premier League.
