Byram's contract had expired at the start of the month after helping them to promotion and a Championship title under former Canaries boss Daniel Farke last season.
He's agreed a one-year extension that means he'll be back at the top table next term, however, this time with his boyhood club. He featured in the Premier League for Norwich in the 2019-20 and 2021-22 campaigns, as well as spending three years at West Ham before he joined the Canaries.
The 31-year-old believes that his time in the division can help his team-mates as they hope to stay there in 2026, and says that he's relishing a dream come true.
"Obviously it's a huge challenge ahead, but one that I'm dead excited for," he said. "I'm hopeful of adding my experience from the past and doing whatever I can for the club to help our ambitions for this year.
"I've said in the past that it was a dream of mine to get promoted with Leeds. Then obviously to be around for the Premier League season is that one step further. It's something I'm so grateful for and excited about.
"To reach the Premier League with your boyhood club, I think when you're younger it seems out of reach. But as the years go on it's just something that I can't believe has happened."
Although the experiences of City and other recent promoted sides have underscored for Byram how tough it'll be to stay up, he believes that United are well placed to do so.
"We need to not underestimate the task ahead," he continued, speaking to official club channels. "It is a huge task. I think the past two seasons prove how difficult it is to stay in the league.
"But when you look at a club like Leeds, with the fan base, the support and the stadium, I think there's no better team for the challenge."
