Manchester United may reportedly face competition for one of their mooted transfer targets this summer.

United are still in the middle of the summer transfer window and, as a result, they are being linked with a host of potential new signings. A new striker said to be top of the shortlist for United this summer - with a host of names being mentioned as possible targets.

Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins is a striker who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. United are reported to have an interest in the 29-year-old, but will seemingly face competition for his signature.

The Daily Mail have reported that Newcastle have now joined the race to snap-up Watkins, this summer, as they look to bring in a new forward option. Brentford star Yoane Wissa has also been mentioned as a would-be target for the Magpies.

Watkins has been linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, despite scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists last term as he helped the club reach the quarter-final of the Champions League.

United and now Newcastle have been mentioned as potential destinations for the England international - who is, seemingly, facing an uncertain future.

It remains to be seen what United will have planned for the centre forward position, having already missed out on the signing of Liam Delap who chose to join Chelsea instead. Matheus Cunha has arrived in a £62.5million deal from Wolves, who is capable of playing a central role in the forward line.

United's priority, at the moment, is agreeing a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Two bids have already been rejected by the Bees, with the second from United believed to be in excess of £60million.
