In the end it was no secret that Luka Modric would be joining AC Milan, but the deal has now been given the stamp by Fabrizio Romano.
It has been widely reported for weeks now that Modric and Milan have reached an agreement for next season, a one-year deal with an option for a second year. He will sign on a free transfer given that his contract with Real Madrid will expire, and will join the club he grew up supporting.
The Croatian will bring a wealth of experience to the Rossoneri given has won 28 major trophies at Madrid, including six UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey titles. It makes him the most decorated footballer in their history, which is some feat.
Modric to Milan: Here we go!
On his X profile, Fabrizio Romano writes: “Luka Modrić to AC Milan, here we go confirmed! Exclusive story from June and deal now in place for Croatian midfielder.
“Modrić signed one year contract at AC Milan valid until June 2026, arriving after Club World Cup as planned. Deal confirmed.”
In his press conference on Monday at Casa Milan, Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that the plan is for Modric to have vacation time after the CWC exit, joining up with the rest of the squad at the beginning of August.
