Alabama Football Offense Preview 2025: Will the Crimson Tide Attack Explode?

The offense didn't quite work like it's supposed to, but it was still fantastic.Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb came over from the Seattle Seahawks last year with the same eye and skills for cranking up a passing game like head coach Kalen DeBoer has, but there were too many power outages. The attack inexplicably fell flat in a key loss to Oklahoma, didn't get moving against Tennessee, and flatlined in the bad weather against Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. The hope was for Bama to be 2023 Washington, but Jalen Milroe wasn't the passer Michael Penix Jr. was, and Penix Jr. wasn't the runner Milroe was. The parts are there, but this will still take a little bit of adjusting. The goal is simple. Get to 400 total yards per game. Alabama was 7-0 when it did that, 2-4 when it didn't. (By the way, 2023 Washington stalled at times, too, failing to get to 400 yards four times.)It all starts with ...

Alabama Crimson Tide Preview 2025: Offense

X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN2025 Alabama Preview Alabama Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season- The quarterback. Ty Simpson has as much pressure on his shoulders as any quarterback ever - more on that in the Key Player section. The 6-2, 210-pounder was an elite recruit who waited for his turn, and now he gets the keys to the kingdom. He won't run all that much, but he has the passing skills to make the attack fly.Austin Mack started with Kalen DeBoer at Washington, made the move over, and he's the next great passer in waiting, if he doesn't do something amazing in fall camp to grab the gig. The 6-6, 235-pound bomber can bring it, but Simpson has a wee bit more experience. Because the quarterbacks will be more passers than dual threats …

- Can the running backs come through? When DeBoer's Washington attack was rolling two years ago, the ground game wasn't ignored, but it was easier to let Michael Penix Jr. keep on throwing. Jalen Milroe wasn't a square peg in a round hole, but he didn't quite fit, and not necessarily in a bad way, leading the team in rushing with 726 yards and 20 scores. Justice Haynes left for Michigan, but last year's top back, Jam Miller, returns after running for 668 yards and seven touchdowns. Now he needs to average over five yards per carry. There will be a rotation of options working behind him, likely starting with 6-1, 242-pound blasting sophomore Daniel Hill, and Richard Young is back after finishing third among the backs with 146 yards and two scores.

- The receiving corps is fantastic. Ryan Williams, talent-wise, is right there with Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, and now the stats should start to match. Williams averaged over 18 yards per catch with eight scores on his 48 grabs, leading receiver Germie Bernard is back after a 50 catch season, and ready to open it up on the outside is the 6-4 Isaiah Horton (Miami), a veteran mismatch of a deep threat.CJ Dippre was a good tight end who wasn't used enough. He's gone, but Josh Cuevas is solid, making 16 catches with a score last year. There's good depth with help from the transfer portal to rotate in the options.

- The Alabama offensive front is a killer. There's enough returning experience to be even stronger now that everyone knows the system and how this works.Kadyn Proctor might be the best offensive tackle in the nation, Parker Brailsford is an all-star center, and Jaeden Roberts is a 6-5, 325-prototype NFL guard. Add in rising 6-7, 322-pound sophomore Wilkin Formby at right tackle, and 6-4, 345-pound guard Kam Dewberry (Texas A&M) - or 6-6, 325-pound Olaus Alinen, or 6-5, 325-pound Geno VandeMark - at guard, and get out of the way.
