'Get him out' - Napoli give transfer update on Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho is still on Napoli's radar amid Man United's quest to sell him in this summer's transfer window.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reaffirmed the Italian club's interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, believing he will "become twice the player" if he leaves Old Trafford.

Garnacho was told in May that United are open to selling him at the right price this summer and he was one of five players to recently inform the club that he wants to leave in this transfer window.

He has not reported back to Carrington for the start of pre-season training, meaning he has been given time to explore his options. His return date, in the event of him not securing a move elsewhere, has been delayed until later this month.

Napoli were interested in the Argentine international back in January and saw a £40million bid rejected. It is understood United value the 21-year-old at north of £50m.

And in the opinion of De Laurentiis, the winger has the potential to take his game to the next level if he leaves Old Trafford.

"Garnacho's got pace, flair and potential," said the Napoli chief. "But that's not even why we want him.

"We want him because he's at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There's a fault at United that I can't explain."

Garnacho is not a natural fit in United head coach Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation. The Portuguese chief immediately changed United's shape after his appointment last November and it does not have room for natural wingers.

Garnacho has been under the spotlight once too often in the last few months. He described United's 2024/25 campaign as "s**t" after starting the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on the bench and recently posted a picture of himself on Instagram donning an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name and number on the back.

Napoli are in the market for a winger this summer after losing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain in January. They have already strengthened their squad this summer with the signing of former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
