Douglas Luiz
Douglas Luiz could return to Villa this summer
Aston Villa have reportedly 'made contact' with Juventus about striking a deal which would see midfielder Douglas Luiz return to the club after only a single season away. According to reports in Italy, Villa would be willing to borrow Luiz back on a season-long loan basis.
Brazilian international cost Juve £42m last summer in a deal which helped to avoid any PSR sanctions, but things haven't worked out as Luiz would've intended in Serie A; having started only three league games, he didn't contribute a single goal or assist last year.
He and that he'd be returning to Turin this summer, after a break, with renewed hopes of improving the general opinion of himself with the club's fanbase after a disappointing beginning, but he may have a choice to make.
While Villa, according to TuttoSport, wouldn't be looking into a permanent deal for Luiz - he signed a five-year deal with the Old Lady last year - they would however be reportedly willing to take him back for next season, to boost Unai Emery's midfield options in what'll be another gruelling campaign with tests domestically and continentally.
"He’s a playmaker. Every ball that comes out of his feet makes sense. After his farewell we invested well, but I would always take Douglas back, for any club. He’s very strong," Villa's president of football operations Monchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport last November.
"He’s playing less than we would have expected, but we’re talking about a very strong player. Some players make their mark straight away, others need time. You need patience, but Douglas’ qualities are beyond discussion. Last year he played 90 per cent of our games and was decisive."
Luiz, 27, scored 22 goals and produced 24 assists for Villa in 204 appearances between 2019 and 2024, having arrived from Manchester City upon the club's promotion back to the Premier League. He has also accumulated interest from Manchester United, Fenerbahce, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United this summer, with an exit from Juve very much on the cards.
