The ‘Ruben Amorim era’ is in full swing at Old Trafford and the Manchester United manager made an immediate – and lasting mark – in his first pre-season training at Carrington.
The 40-year-old Portuguese coach had been afforded his first real opportunity to prepare for a new season with Manchester United since his arrival from Sporting CP.
Ruben Amorim took over during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign after he left his native homeland and replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout in 2024.
The United manager faced a tough start to life in England after taking charge at the Premier League club, following on from the Red Devils’ sacking of Erik ten Hag.
Amorim watched United’s form continue to regress in the Premier League last season and the Red Devils fell to a 15th-place finish in the league table.
He also missed out on his first piece of major silverware as manager at Old Trafford, with United losing 1-0 to Tottenham in May in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

Ruben Amorim makes a huge difference to the Man Utd players in pre-season training at Carrington
Some first-team Manchester United players reported to Carrington on Monday for Ruben Amorim’s first pre-season training at Old Trafford ahead of their tour.
Amorim saw 15 players arrive at the Carrington training complex and United said more players will be turning up for pre-season preparations throughout the week.
The former Sporting CP head coach has been overhauling his United first-team squad in the summer window ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
Amorim is not playing down the massive task ahead of him as part of his rebuild at Old Trafford and it was clear after the “end of a tough session” under him.
Manchester United’s official website shared details on Amorim’s first pre-season session with his players and the ‘winning mentality’ that he is instilling in his players.
The United players “insisted” on playing a “few more minutes” and ultimately took part in a penalty shootout to settle which team had ‘won’ in their session.
