Fluminense winger Jhon Arias has emerged as a target for Tottenham
The arrival of Thomas Frank was expected to be a turning point at Tottenham Hotspur, as fans expected Daniel Levy to back the Danish tactician in the summer. But Spurs are already playing catch-up in the transfer market, although things are finally starting to change.
The Lilywhites confirmed the signing of Japanese defensive prospect Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale on Tuesday afternoon. They have followed it up by agreeing a £55m fee with West Ham United for the signing of Mohammed Kudus.
Now that they have agreed a fee for Kudus, Spurs must shift their focus towards strengthening their wing department. Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel failed to live up to their expectations, as Tottenham often lacked the cutting edge from wide areas last season. Brennan Johnson was the club’s top scorer but his overall involvement in build-up play from the right flank was often left to be desired.

It is vital to note that Thomas Frank relies on quick, physical and tenacious wingers who can cover a lot of ground and link up well in the final third. So, bringing in a new winger is an absolute necessity for Daniel Levy as the club looks to compete well on multiple fronts, including the Champions League, during the 2025/26 campaign.
Tottenham planning to raid South American market for a new winger
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs interested in signing Fluminense winger Jhon Arias. The club’s sporting officials have been gathering information about the Colombian for weeks and could not translate their interest into an offer that could appeal to both Fluminense and the player himself.
Jhon Arias was one of the Club World Cup’s biggest revelations. He registered a goal and an assist in six games, as Fluminense were knocked out from the semi-finals of the competition by Chelsea. Yet, the Colombian international did enough to catch the attention of many clubs, including Spurs.
Thomas Frank would require a bigger squad to help Tottenham compete on all fronts next season
The aforementioned report adds the Brazilian club are wary that that they would not be able to hold onto Arias for long and want around €25 million for his services this summer. Talks between Fluminense and Tottenham have not reached its final stages yet, with the versatile attacker desiring in making the jump to Europe.
The diminutive winger would add a different dynamic to the Tottenham side and also help in beefing up the squad. Set to turn 28 in September, Arias is operating at the peak of his powers and could arrive in Europe with a burning desire to prove himself.
