After spending eight and a half seasons at Manchester City, Kyle Walker has signed for Burnley.
Walker’s deal to join Burnley costs £5 million as arguably City’s greatest right-back in their history has now embarked on a new adventure.
The 2024/2025 campaign was a difficult season for the 35-year-old as he was far from his best and mid-season, the veteran decided to join AC Milan on loan.
Walker’s performance for England against Senegal garnered criticism as well as it is clear to see that is no longer the elite full-back he once was.

Gary Lineker says Kyle Walker’s move to Burnley ‘makes a lot of sense’
However, Kyle Walker has the chance to redeem himself at Burnley.
Gary Neville lauded Walker as the Premier League’s greatest-ever right-back and with many perhaps agreeing with the Manchester United legend, he does have much more to prove.

Gary Lineker claimed on The Rest Is Football podcast that the former Tottenham Hotspur defender’s move to Burnley is a brilliant move, saying: “Makes a lot of sense to me, that one.”
“Kyle Walker going there, a bit of old, an old head around the dressing room is always invaluable. He’s a proper professional captain at Manchester City for a while.I think it’s a good one.”
Kyle Walker could be Burnley’s Esteban Cambiasso
As Gary Lineker explained, Walker could be the experienced head Burnley are lacking within their camp.
In previous seasons, several such seasoned pros have signed for newly-promoted clubs and helped them stay up.
Examples include Esteban Cambiasso, when he signed for Leicester City in 2014, Joao Moutinho when he joined Wolves in 2018 or Willian Borges when he made the move to Fulham in 2022.
All three players played a key role in their respective sides staying in the Premier League, with Moutinho and Willian in particular helping their teams become consistent fixtures in the English top-flight.
Manchester City will be hoping Walker has a similar impact at Burnley, as Fabrizio Romano reported that they will only be able to bank a £5 million fee if he plays 70 per cent of the Clarets’ games in the Premier League and ensures they stay in the division.

The six-time Premier League winner will be motivated by the prospect of being Burnley’s main man.
With Scott Parker holding Walker in high esteem, the former Spurs pair could help the newly-promoted side have a season to remember.
