NFL uniform rankings: Commanders rise after 2025 alternates reveal | USA Today
14.Kansas City Chiefs (15)
They’ve long sported a classic look, crowned by the interlocking “KC” in the arrowhead helmet logo … and that’s about it. And, hey, it’s certainly been working for them in recent years, and it’s not like it makes sense to wear their Dallas Texans uniforms from the 1960s. Their somewhat problematic team name also limits their creative space. Still, feels like there’s some room for variance, but owner Clark Hunt hasn’t been open to it. And, heck, maybe he’s right. No one’s begging for gold pants or jerseys here for the only team in the league without an alternate or throwback option.
Super Bowl champion discusses Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ elite status | Chiefs Wire
“People don’t because they’re in the Super Bowl; they’re getting to the championship rounds. People don’t want to talk because they’re going on deep playoff runs,” said Canty, “If the Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in a situation where they’re not in the Super Bowl championship games, and Mahomes has less than 30 touchdown passes. He has the kind of turnovers that we saw. We’re talking about him having 15 to 20 turnovers, and then all of a sudden, it’s going to become a question of who the best quarterback in the NFL is. Now listen, for my money, if I’m starting a team, it’s Patrick Mahomes over everybody else because this guy is a proven winner, and to me, at quarterback, that matters more than all of the numbers.”
Outlook for Each 2025 NFL 1st-Round Pick Heading into Training Camp | Bleacher Report
32. OT Josh Simmons, Kansas City Chiefs
Initial Role: Compete for starting LT
If Simmons is healthy, expect him to be protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blindside in Week 1 this fall. The Chiefs did sign Jaylon Moore in free agency to potentially take on that role, but Moore should be more of an insurance policy in case the rookie isn’t ready to go than the full-time starter.
The veteran played in 55 career games but only made 12 starts in San Francisco, while Simmons could have been the highest-drafted offensive tackle if it weren’t for the season-ending knee injury last fall. Luckily, Andy Reid said on June 19 that the first-round pick will be a full participant in training camp, per ESPN’s Adam Teicher.
NFL 2020s Future Half-Decade Team: Will Patrick Mahomes Be QB1 For Next 5 Years? | FOX Sports
Quarterback:Patrick Mahomes,Kansas City Chiefs
Mahomes will be entering the first half of his 30s, but that’s when many of the greatest quarterbacks have played their best ball. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen haven’t yet proven that they can beat Mahomes on the biggest stage, while Joe Burrow doesn’t have a strong enough team heading into the late 2020s. Someone like the Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels is tempting here because of his historic rookie year, but he’s played just one NFL season.

Kansas CityChiefs: Offensive guard
Kansas City has added some competition along its offensive line by signing Jaylon Moore and drafting Josh Simmons after trading away Joe Thuney. The left guard spot vacated by Thuney is currently filled by Kingsley Suamataia. At the very least, the Chiefs should add competition in that role.
Running back would be another consideration if the Chiefs had not shown a willingness to invest little in the position since Clyde Edwards-Helaire did not pan out. Defensive tackle rounds out the top three.

2025 NFL secondary rankings: Ravens and Chiefs take the top spots | PFF
2.Kansas City Chiefs
While the Chiefs may lack household names, their secondary is a cohesive unit that performs at a high level. Trent McDuffie leads the group and is arguably the NFL’s best cornerback, topping all players at the position in advanced coverage grade over the past two seasons. Cornerback Jaylen Watson and safety Jaden Hicks were both strong in 2024, earning coverage grades of 71.6 and 75.7, respectively. Kansas City also added Kristian Fulton in free agency and drafted Nohl Williams in the third round to bolster an already excellent group.

Sources - Bucs’ Tristan Wirfs to miss start of season with knee injury | ESPN
Wirfs likely will start the season on the physically unable to perform list, sources confirmed to ESPN. If he is placed on the PUP list, he will miss at least Tampa Bay’s first four games.
Wirfs underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday, according to ESPN and multiple reports, after originally injuring his right knee last season.

10 Biggest Questions: What will be the Chiefs’ best offensive line?
Left tackle
Going into camp, this is the most interesting position. Simmons is recovering from a torn patellar tendon, but has been cleared to participate in practices. Under the circumstances, it seems likely that Moore (with a dozen NFL starts under his belt) will get the first crack at starting reps.
But how long of a leash will the veteran have? While the Chiefs aren’t paying Moore an outrageous amount of money for the position he plays, they did invest real money into his contract. If Moore has a great camp, that will be great. But what if his performances are up-and-down? How long would it take for Kansas City to make a change? Would the team be willing to do it before Week 1?
How Simmons performs will be a big part of the equation. We simply don’t know how the rookie will look in his first action after the injury he suffered in October. If he immediately performs as he did with the Buckeyes in 2024, there’s zero doubt in my mind he will be the starter — but that’s not a guarantee. Even after he’s fully recovered, there will still be hurdles for the rookie to clear.
So, how quickly can Simmons get up to speed? Do the Chiefs even want him to start Week 1, or would they prefer to give him more time to get into peak shape?
How Moore and Simmons play in training camp (and preseason) will be huge factors in determining what the Chiefs will do at left tackle.
