Man City have already signed three players this summer, but they’re looking to add more.
Pep Guardiola has had a busy start to the summer transfer window, as he saw the additions of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri, and Tijani Reijnders, who will help replace the ageing core members of Guardiola’s squad.
However, following City’s Club World Cup exit, Guardiola wants more talent added to his squad as he aims to catch up to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title race, following the poor season last year.
Man City could still do with adding attacking talent after losing Kevin De Bruyne following his contract expiration. They are reportedly talking with a player who is known not only for goal-scoring, but also his creative ability.
Morgan Gibbs-White “agrees personal terms” to join Man City
One player that City have been linked with since the start of the transfer window is Nottingham Forest attacker Morgan Gibbs-White, who had a career year at the City Ground this past season. He scored seven goals, and provided 10 assists for Forest in 38 games last year.
His recent form has also enabled the 25-year-old to break out into the England national team squad, having now made four appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side. It has now emerged that he has been talking with Man City over a potential move to the Etihad.
According to a report by Football Insider, the 25-year-old has “agreed personal terms” with Man City, and a framework contract agreement is now in place. It is understood that he has his mind set on a move to City.
The report says that Nottingham Forest are reluctant to sell Gibbs-White as they have already lost Anthony Elanga, who joined Newcastle United for a fee of £55 million. So, they may ask for a hefty price on Gibbs-White if he decides he wants to leave the City Ground this summer too.
In the Spring, talkSPORT reported that Forest could demand around £100m for the former Wolves midfielder. It is not understood how much Man City are willing to pay, but that would be a hefty fee for any club to afford.
Nico Gonzalez sale could help fund Gibbs-White deal
Seeing as Gibbs-White is expected to command a very hefty transfer fee, Man City may have to sell in order to help afford a deal for the 25-year-old. The same report by Football Insider says that they are listening to offers for midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Since joining from Porto, Gonzalez made 17 appearances, scoring two goals. He has not hit the heights that were expected of him when he came to the Etihad, and so could be sold. If City can get anything close to his original transfer fee, it would help them to afford a deal for Gibbs-White, someone who could prove to be more impactful.
