Liverpool’s transfer tug-of-war with Luis Diaz looks unlikely to be resolved any time soon.
The Reds are in a slightly tricky situation with the Colombian having publicly made it clear that they are unwilling to hand him a new contract.
With two years left on his current deal, however, Liverpool have also been at pains to insist that Diaz is not for sale this summer.
Something clearly has to give, and with Diaz attracting interest from some of Europe’s top sides, there is a feeling that his time at Anfield may be coming to an end.
Liverpool will not let the 28-year-old out for cheap, but Diaz’s personal feelings are likely to play a big part in what eventually comes to pass.
Reports this week suggested that Diaz was ready to hand in a transfer request at Liverpool. And according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, that has now occurred.

Luis Diaz pushing for Liverpool exit
Diaz’s situation is a strange one. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s ‘not for sale’ stance is genuine, or purely a case of trying to drive the price up.
Either way, it appears that Bayern are very serious about signing the Reds’ No. 7. For his part, Diaz himself also appears keen to make a move happen.

Taking to X on Thursday, Plettenberg says this is something the Colombia international has once again ‘made clear’ to Liverpool in recent days.
“Understand Luis Diaz has once again made it clear that he is open to leaving Liverpool if a really exciting offer arrives,” the reporter claims.

Diaz exit starting to feel inevitable
Although it does not appear as though Diaz has handed in a ‘formal’ transfer request at Liverpool, he clearly does want to go.
From Liverpool’s point of view, you can understand why they’d want to keep him around, he is a very important player after all.
But it is also clear that if they do not intend to renew Diaz’s contract, then now is the time to sell him. He has plenty of interest and could generate a good transfer fee.
There is also not much good in having an unhappy player around the place, especially as the team attempt to come to terms with the loss of Diogo Jota.
Jota’s tragic death has taught supporters once again that there are things far more important than football. If Diaz feels he would be happier elsewhere, Liverpool should not stand in his way. As long as they can get a good fee, this can still suit everyone.
