Club president confirms interest in Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United’s summer business has been anything but quiet, with the club still navigating the futures of several first-team stars.

Ruben Amorim’s new era at Old Trafford has prompted a tactical overhaul, with players previously seen as undroppable now on the fringes.

The manager’s preferred formation continues to impact natural wide men — and one of the biggest casualties appears to be Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine winger is yet to return to Carrington for pre-season training.

He’s one of several players — including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia— who reportedly handed in transfer requests.

Alejandro Garnacho was told as early as May that United would be open to selling him if the right offer came in, and he has since informed the club of his desire to leave.

Now, Serie A giants Napoli are back in the frame for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has publicly reignited the club’s interest in Garnacho, declaring that the winger would flourish away from Manchester United.

“Garnacho’s got pace, flair and potential,” De Laurentiis told reporters in Naples, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

“But that’s not even why we want him.

“We want him because he’s at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player.

“There’s a fault at United that I can’t explain.”

It’s not the first time Napoli have made a move for the Argentine.

The Italian side reportedly had a £40 million bid turned down by United back in January.

Napoli are expected to return with a new offer this summer.

With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia having departed for Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli are looking to fill a significant gap in their squad.

Garnacho fits the profile: young, dynamic, and capable of brilliance in the final third.

Despite his undeniable talent, Garnacho has had a rocky few months at Old Trafford.

He publicly criticised United’s season as “s**t” after being benched in the Europa League final and caused a stir by sharing an image of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt — with Marcus Rashford’s name and number emblazoned on the back.

Garnacho’s stylistic mismatch with Amorim’s system, combined with his off-pitch antics, means a departure feels increasingly inevitable.

United’s valuation remains a sticking point, but with Napoli’s intent and Garnacho’s eagerness to explore options, this saga looks set to escalate.
