Crystal Palace one to watch out for as player rejects transfer – Newcastle interested for months

Crystal Palace are considered a side to ‘keep an eye on’ when it comes to AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, with Newcastle United also in the mix.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Thiaw recently turned down a move to Como, opening the door for the Premier League duo.

They explain that Thiaw was uninterested in joining Cesc Fabregas’ side, turning down a contract proposal worth €4m a year after they put him at the top of their list. That came alongside a €25m offer to AC Milan for him.

Now it appears foreign clubs will be the most interesting for him and Crystal Palace are one to keep an eye on. They could lose Marc Guehi this summer and Thiaw would be a replacement for him. They can also offer European football, if they can work out an agreement with UEFA or find a buyer for John Textor’s shares in time to avoid their current exclusion.

Newcastle have also been ‘interested in months’ and may be an option for the German defender. Thiaw, for his part, would gladly return to the Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich have shown interest this summer.

They would be big competition for Crystal Palace and Newcastle, who are very much in the mix at this point after Thiaw turned down the Como opportunity.
