What Man Utd ace did with five players in pre-season training proves his role under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Amad Diallo was one of the many first-team Manchester United players who reported for the first pre-season training session under Ruben Amorim at Carrington.

The 22-year-old Ivorian forward was a standout performer for Manchester United during the Premier League club’s underwhelming 2024-25 campaign at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo netted 11 times and had 10 assists to his name in 43 matches across all competitions for United last season, with the Red Devils star impressing at times.

The winger had struggled to establish himself in the United first team under Erik ten Hag before making his presence felt in the 2023-24 season under the Dutchman.

Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October and Amad’s influence in the first-team squad was only solidified further with Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Amad inked a new contract with United back in January and the Ivory Coast international committed his long-term future to Old Trafford until 2030.

Amad Diallo’s role in Ruben Amorim’s first Man Utd pre-season training at Carrington shows the impact that he has had

Amad Diallo’s second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season was curtailed after he suffered damage to his ankle ligaments, which was a blow for Ruben Amorim.

The Ivorian was expected to miss the remainder of the season after his injury back in February, but Amad overcame the odds and returned from the sidelines.

Some first-team United players were at Carrington for the first pre-season training under Amorim on Monday since the Portuguese coach’s arrival from Sporting CP.

Amad was among the initial 15 players who reported at the Carrington training complex and the former Atalanta man had his own role to play in the session.

Manchester United’s official website revealed that Amad’s involvement in training included taking part and “competing” in a rondo exercise with the “younger” talent.

Amad’s rondo session had him playing alongside the likes of United youngsters Tyler Fredricson, Shea Lacey, Diego Leon, Bendito Mantato and Reece Munro.

Why Amad Diallo’s rondo with Man Utd youngsters shows what he offers to Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Harry Robinson reported for United’s website that Amorim made sure that he was “stuck in” and “ensured the standard was high” for his training session at Carrington.

Amorim has had the chance to integrate United youth academy talent with first-team players for invaluable experience and Amad is the perfect role model for that.

The 40-year-old United manager spoke highly of Amad last season and the Ivory Coast winger’s role under him is more clear-cut than it was under Erik ten Hag.

Amad will no doubt play a key role for Amorim in the former Sporting CP manager’s first full season at Old Trafford and his influence is only growing in the first team.
