Defender could snub Arsenal despite agreeing terms

Arsenal have been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks, adding three new stars to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners confirmed on Thursday that they had signed Christian Norgaard from London rivals Brentford, with the Dane following Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi through the door at The Emirates.

Arteta has overseen three consecutive second-placed finishes in the Premier League, and the Spaniard will be desperate to see his side go one better next time around.

It appears, however, that the North London giants have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of a new defender.

According to TBR Football, Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera could be willing to sign a new contract with his current club despite agreeing terms with Arsenal.

The defender has been a target for the Gunners for much of the summer and he has already agreed personal terms on a long-term deal with the Premier League side.

The report claims, however, that the player himself has now hinted that he would be willing to sign a new contract with Valencia as long as it included a £20 million release clause to become active next summer.

Mosquera, 21, made more than 40 appearances for the Spanish side last term and his impressive performances attracted interest from Arsenal.

It is also claimed that Arsenal currently value the player at around £20 million and are currently lining up a new offer for the player which will be in the region of that amount.

Valencia boss Carlos Corberan is said to be keen to keep hold of the centre-back and the former West Bromwich Albion boss is believed to have urged those in charge of the club to avoid selling him this summer.

Mosquera’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season.
