Matheus Cunha did not hesitate about joining Manchester United and Ruben Amorim’s long-term project this summer.
Manchester United announced the £62.5m deal for Matheus Cunha on the first day of the summer transfer window, with all details finalised with Wolves beforehand.
Cunha grew up idolising United and was eager to make the move to Old Trafford. His arrival kickstarted what should be a summer overhaul, although transfer activity has since ground to a halt.
Sporting director Jason Wilcox hailed Cunha’s ability when he was announced, and now head coach Ruben Amorim has a chance to work closely with the Brazilian in pre-season.

“Like I say, everyone has treated me very well and I feel very welcome.”
Cunha speaks English well having spent two and a half years at Wolves before making his move to Manchester, but being able to speak Portuguese with Amorim is clearly helping him settle.
Ruben Amorim has always been an excellent communicator
One of the many reasons Amorim was hired at United was because he was at the heart of an incredibly exciting Sporting team full of players who appeared to adore him.
Amorim’s former players raved about his communication skills, suggesting it was one of his key strengths as a head coach.
When he first arrived in Manchester, Amorim quickly made it clear that he would “protect my players – always and from anyone.”

Despite a miserable first season – which ended with a Europa League final defeat – it does seem as though Amorim has got the dressing room fully behind him.
After defeat in Bilbao, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes supported Amorim by publicly claiming he was the right person to lead United in their rebuild.
