Liverpool block potential exit for forward amid transfer interest

Liverpool have reportedly blocked growing interest from top clubs as they seem determined to keep Luis Diaz for the upcoming season.

Luis Diaz has become a top target for several European giants. Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to pay nearly €80m for him, having identified the Colombian as their priority signing.

Meanwhile, Spanish giants Barcelona remain keen. After failing to sign Nico Williams, both Hansi Flick and Deco are reportedly pushing to bring Diaz as a safer option for the left-wing role.

There has also been interest from Saudi Arabia. Al-Nassr have reportedly made Diaz their top target and are willing to offer close to €100m. However, Diaz may not be considering a move to the Saudi league right now, as he reportedly prefers to stay in Europe.

A few days ago, Diaz broke his silence and said: “At the moment, we are negotiating with Liverpool and all interested parties. I’m calm and happy at Liverpool, I’ll think it over and try to make the best decision.”

According to Florian Plettenberg, Diaz is now open to leaving Anfield, but Liverpool are currently rejecting all offers as they wants to keep him.

Why Liverpool may want to keep Luis Diaz

Diaz was outstanding last season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions for the Reds. He played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win, featuring in multiple attacking positions.

Arne Slot may have seen Diaz’s full potential, especially after using him in the centre-forward role last season. This could be a major reason behind the club’s desire to hold on to him.

However, earlier reports suggested Diaz isn’t fully happy with Liverpool’s approach. The Colombian might have expected a salary increase or efforts to extend his deal following his top-level performances.

Still, Liverpool could be planning to keep him on his current contract, which runs until 2027. The Merseyside club might want to utilise these remaining years — and could even be ‘okay’ if he ends up leaving for free later on.
