Leeds United are looking for a new goalkeeper to aid their return to the Premier League, with Angus Gunn firmly in their sights.

Scottish goalkeeper Gunn has been a Leeds target for some time and is currently a free agent.

There has been significant interest in Gunn, who has played 31 times in the Premier League, from several clubs since he was released by Norwich this summer.

Leeds face competition for signature of Gunn

Gunn has 16 caps for Scotland and played for them as recently as June last year, starting their friendly match against Iceland.

There is therefore significant interest in Gunn’s next destination from the Scottish media.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

Barry Anderson, a journalist at the Edinburgh News, tweeted on Thursday (10 July) that there were clubs from England and Saudi Arabia interested in signing him. These included Leeds, Everton and Al-Khaleej.

However, Anderson stated that Gunn has already been in talks with the Saudi club, so they would appear to be favourites for his signature, with a decision either way set to be made soon.

The writing is on the wall for Meslier

Leeds have been actively pursuing a number of goalkeepers this summer.

They made contact Torino to discuss the possibility of signing their Serbian stopper Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, although that deal appears to have fallen through.

Earlier in July, reports suggested that Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri is now being targeted, although there is no news of an official bid yet.

Whatever happens this summer, it looks like the writing is on the wall for Illan Meslier. The Frenchman made 39 appearances in the Championship last year, keeping 21 clean sheets. However, a number of high-profile errors led fans and the media to question him.

Daniel Farke stuck by Meslier throughout the season, and that decision as Leeds were promoted as champions.

But now Leeds are in the Premier League, it’s clear that the German is looking for an upgrade in goal.

Meslier has just one year left on his contract, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave Elland Road this summer.
