Madrid crashed out of the Club World Cup in embarrassing fashion.

The Spanish media have given a brutal verdict after Real Madrid were dumped out of the Club World Cup in a 4-0 thrashing by PSG on Wednesday.

It was far from the debut tournament Xabi Alonso would have hoped for at Real Madrid following their disappointing season under Carlo Ancelotti which saw them go trophyless domestically.

Madrid's failure to win the Club World Cup will feel even more damning considering the early signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.

As expected, the Spanish media held nothing back following the PSG humiliation with one Madrid star being handed a 0/10 rating for the tournament by MARCA.

Following an error for PSG's opener from Fabian Ruiz, it was Raúl Asencio who felt the wrath of the Spanish press who held nothing back when handing out their rating.

They wrote: "He squandered everything he had earned during a season in which he burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion at the World Cup.

"Three serious errors in three different matches have left him in a bad light, not only on the sporting front but also with regard to his future in the squad.

"The World Cup has done him a lot of damage. He's been singled out," MARCA added.

However, not every Madrid player was in their bad books with Gonzalo Garcia and Dean Huijsen receiving 10/10 ratings. Fellow new signing Trent Alexnader-Arnold was handed a 6.5/10.

Xabi Alonso's reaction to the 4-0 defeat

The Madrid manager was unsurprisingly unimpressed with his players' performances against PSG, however, he remained confident for the season ahead.

"Today it hurts and our level wasn't good enough," he told the media at full-time.

“Going 2-0 down early on is a conditioning factor. We wanted to play an intense game and after that you face it in a different way.

"More than the distance between the two teams is the margin we have to improve. It's the end of this season and not the start of the next.

"We’ll take the positives from this Club World Cup period. We're leaving as a better team," he added.
