Newcastle United are interested in a move to bring Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League this summer.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old is seen as a “great fit” for Eddie Howe’s side.
Gallagher could be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid this summer after failing to nail down a place in Diego Simeone’s starting XI, putting English clubs on alert.
Howe is believed to be a big fan of Gallagher, and is aiming to strengthen his midfield options with the likes of Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley linked with moves away.
The former Chelsea midfielder, meanwhile, is keen to play regular football to establish his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Newcastle are not the only side interested in Gallagher, though, as Tottenham also hold a long-term interest after failing to sign him from Chelsea last summer.

Newcastle United weigh up Conor Gallagher bid
Football Insider revealed in May that Newcastle are lining up major signings as they aim to back Howe ahead of their return to Champions League football.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Gallagher would be a top signing for the Magpies if they can agree a deal with Atletico.
“Newcastle are having a look at Conor Gallagher,” he told Football Insider.
“There have been suggestions he could be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid, because he hasn’t managed to nail down his place in the starting XI.
“Newcastle are the type of team who would be prepared to let him play his game.
“I hear Eddie Howe is a big fan of his as well, so it would be a great fit for him.
“A lot of it will depend on what Atletico Madrid are going to ask for him and what Newcastle are going to be prepared to pay.
“But it’s a position they want to improve in, especially if they’re going to let the likes of Longstaff and Miley leave in the background.”

Jack Grealish update emerges as Man City exit draws closer
Gallagher is not the only England international on Howe’s radar this summer, as Newcastle are also weighing up a move to sign Jack Grealish from Man City.
Football Insider revealed on 9 July that Newcastle plan to accelerate their interest in Grealish over the coming weeks after completing a deal for Anthony Elanga.
Grealish accepts he will have to join a new club next season to secure his place in England’s World Cup squad in the summer of 2026.
This comes after Football Insider revealed Grealish wants to join another Premier League club, with both Everton and Newcastle vying for his signature.
