Art on the Rockies returns this weekend with 85 fine artists and craftspeople. The Battle Mountain High School in Edwards will host all sorts of artists with plenty of parking, a food truck and high-country hospitality.
Since 2011, Art on the Rockies has been a staple on the Vail Valley art scene. The show draws in artists from all over the country featuring mediums like painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, furniture, wearable art and more. This is a juried show, meaning these artists have been selected to be a part of the event.
Art on the Rockies prides itself in having “active artists” and this venue allows festival goers a chance to meet the artists and not only speak to them about their craft but also see them in action.

It’s another busy weekend for Bravo! Vail Music Festival with performances each night this weekend. The Philadelphia Orchestra will close out its time in Vail with Berlioz, Music of the Movies and Musorgsky and Ravel.
On Friday, Stéphane Denève will conduct and treat the audience to works by Chabrier, Rodrigo and Berlioz. Joining The Philadelphia Orchestra on stage will be Pablo Sáinz-Villegas, who returns to Bravo! Vail after debuting here last year.
“One of the thrills of being artistic director of the Bravo! Vail Music Festival is inviting an artist back immediately on the heels of a successful debut. Last summer the extraordinary Spanish classical guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas was such a hit when he appeared with Sinfónica de Minería, we knew right away we wanted him back. Luckily for us, not only was he available, but also our friends at The Philadelphia Orchestra, including the wonderful conductor Stéphane Denève, agreed it would be a perfect fit and built a beautiful program around him, including the ever-popular Berlioz “Symphonie Fantastique.”
Saturday’s performance is a must-see for movie lovers. Popular songs from “King Kong,” “Psycho,” “Indiana Jones,” “Star Wars” and more will be performed during The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Music at the Movies performance.
“Pictures at an Exhibition” brings artwork to life on Sunday. Russian composer Modest Musorgsky honored his friend, artist Victor Hartmann, during this piece that contains 10 movements and a recurring “Promenade” theme in between the movements. Maurice Ravel orchestrated this version that will be performed on Sunday. For tickets and more information, go to BravoVail.org.
