Everton have been keen to add competition for Jordan Pickford ahead of next season.

Angus Gunn has attracted plenty of interest this summer, after departing Norwich at the end of last season as a free agent.

The Scotland international impressed last season and could link up with his fellow Scot David Moyes on L5.

The Toffees have been looking for a back-up keeper this summer, with Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper another name linked.

Everton have struggled to land their targets this summer.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Moyes’ side, however, are finally set to make progress this summer as Thierno Barry officially joined on Wednesday (9 July).

The Friedkin Group are reportedly looking to add players in all departments this summer, with the team in need of depth after losing players at the end of last season.

According to journalist Barry Anderson on X (10 July), talks have taken place between Saudi Arabian side Al-Khaleej and Gunn.

There is also interest from Premier League rivals Leeds, with the Peacocks having gone up against Gunn twice last season.

The goalkeeper is expected to decide on his next club soon.

Interest from sides who can give Gunn regular gametime has potentially damaged Everton in their bid to convince to 29-year-old to move to Merseyside.

With Pickford dominating in goal for Everton, it is likely that Gunn will be playing second fiddle at the Blues, which isn’t an attractive prospect for a player in the prime of their career.

Everton should target a young keeper this summer

Everton will likely miss out on Gunn due to more attractive prospects elsewhere – financially speaking, at least.

The Toffees should instead prioritise signing a young talent who could replace Pickford in the years to come.

The passionate keeper still clearly has a few more years that he can continue as Everton’s number one for and the Toffees should look for someone more closely aligned to Sheffield United’s Cooper.

The Blues have a chance to progress in cup competitions this season, which could offer a young keeper the ideal chance to excel.
