Man Utd icon's son signs first pro contract with PL club - he's a very different player to his…

Rio Ferdinand's son has followed in his father's footsteps and recently signed his first professional contract with a Premier League team. Ferdinand was an elite centre-back during his career, shining with Manchester United on his way to winning just about everything there was to win.

He's considered one of the greatest defenders to ever play in the Premier League and it's hard to imagine the Red Devils would have been quite as successful if they hadn't had him sitting in the heart of their defence. While he was an incredible centre-back, though, his son is a natural in a completely different position and is making his way in football.

Recently, there have been a number of stars bursting onto the scene in the Premier League whose fathers were top stars. Liam Delap is a fine example, making a name for himself at Ipswich Town before joining Chelsea this summer. The next player who might replicate that is Lorenz Ferdinand.

Coming from a family of top footballers, it seemed almost inevitable that he would earn a shot at the top of English football. The goalkeeper came through the ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and recently signed a professional contract with the club, as reported by the Daily Mail. He's edging closer to a Premier League debut and spent the last few months of the 2024/25 campaign out on loan earning valuable minutes.

He joined non-league club Havant & Waterlooville and played six games for the southern side. He kept two cleansheets during that time and impressed during his spell. There's no overstating how important playing senior football is to developing as a player and the loan spell was huge for Ferdinand.

Now, he's signed a professional contract with the Seagulls and if Fabian Hurzeler's side have shown anything over the years, it's that they like to give young prospects opportunities in the team. It will take some doing to replicate the levels of success that his father had in football, but if the youngster has even half the career that Rio Ferdinand had, he'll have done very well.
