Jhon Arias is now a target for Wolverhampton Wanderers, [as we reported earlier](https://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-set-to-make-offer-for-cwc-star-player-keen-on-such-a-transfer/), but the Brazilian press now highlights the complexities surrounding his potential exit from Fluminense.
[According to Globo Esporte](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/fluminense/noticia/2025/07/10/desejo-de-arias-de-atuar-na-europa-deixa-fluminense-em-encruzilhada-entenda-questao-contratual.ghtml?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=Esporte&utm_campaign=globoEsporte) in Brazil, Wolves made contact with Fluminense during the Club World Cup to gather information on Arias, and have since opened talks over personal terms.
The 27-year-old winger is said to prioritise a move to England, despite receiving approaches from other European sides and the Middle East.
Arias recently extended his contract with Fluminense until mid-2028, and the club are currently unwilling to negotiate his departure.
However, the player’s desire to play in Europe, and specifically in the Premier League, is expected to weigh heavily in any upcoming talks.
Fluminense hold only 50% of the player’s economic rights, with the other half owned by Patriotas, his former club in Colombia. That limits the Brazilian side’s financial return from any sale and adds another layer of negotiation. It also helps explain the resistance to parting ways with their top performer.
The club have not set an asking price, but _GE Globo_ reports that before the contract renewal in February, there was a verbal agreement to consider offers from Europe.
Fluminense are now waiting for a formal bid from Wolves before deciding their next steps, and may seek to delay the transfer if it does materialise, to ensure squad continuity for key matches in July and August.
Arias has spoken openly about his dream of playing in Europe, citing personal and family aspirations rather than financial motives. At 27, this may be one of his final chances to secure a move to the top level.
_“It’s up to the board and the president,”_ he said after Fluminense’s Club World Cup campaign ended against Chelsea. _“You never know, the future is open. I have a long contract, I’m happy here.”_
The winger is currently the highest-paid player at Fluminense following his latest deal, which reflected both his form and status within the squad.
Still, if Wolves submit an offer that matches Arias’ ambitions and convinces the club, negotiations may quickly accelerate.
For now, the player’s next steps remain uncertain, but Wolverhampton’s interest has certainly put the situation in motion.
