Liverpool are bracing to receive offers for Luis Diaz in the coming weeks after Nico Williams decided to commit his future to Athletic Bilbao.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he expects Barcelona to step up their chase for the 28-year-old.
Williams had been the Spanish giants’ first-choice option on the left-hand side, but they have now turned their attentions towards Diaz after missing out.
Football Insider revealed last month that Arne Slot will demand £70million to sell Diaz this summer after they rebuffed Barcelona’s initial approach.
Barca still view the Colombia international as a top target, but there is a feeling that they may struggle to meet the asking price if Liverpool do not negotiate.
As a result, Hansi Flick’s side are also weighing up alternatives to Diaz as Brown told Football Insider that Barcelona are stepping up interest in Marcus Rashford.

Luis Diaz to quit Liverpool as Barcelona weigh up new offer
Brown told Football Insider earlier in the window that Liverpool are prepared to let Diaz leave after they completed the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Reds are now preparing to receive offers for the winger in the coming weeks.
“*Barcelona are targeting a move to sign Luis Diaz,*” he told Football Insider.
“He’s attracting a lot of interest, so Liverpool are preparing to receive offers for him.
“Barca missed out on Nico Williams, so I expect they’ll return to Liverpool to test the waters and see if they get any encouragement over the deal.
“We’ve spoken before about Liverpool’s attacking options and Slot still wants to strengthen there.
“If Diaz leaves, they’re going to be forced to go and spend on a new option.
“I think that’s something they’ll be open to, but then it will depend on whether Barcelona are willing to pay what they’re going to be asking for.
“They’ve been looking at Rashford too, maybe a loan deal for him, so he’s not their only option.
“If they can’t afford Diaz, they’ll have to go elsewhere because Liverpool won’t sell him on the cheap.”

Anthony Gordon update emerges at Anfield
Amid the ongoing speculation about a potential move for Diaz, Liverpool have set their sights on a new left-winger, with Anthony Gordon firmly on their radar.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 10 July that Liverpool are plotting a move for Gordon later in the window as the winger would be “very keen” on the switch.
Sources say Gordon is still open to a move to Liverpool despite having signed a new long-term contract at Newcastle in October to extend his stay until 2030.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in May that Liverpool are prepared to sign Gordon on top of their deal for Wirtz regardless of the money involved.
