Arsenal plan Eze transfer talks despite Madueke bid

Arsenal’s bid for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke doesn’t affect their pursuit of Eberechi Eze, with the Gunners planning to make contact with Crystal Palace over a move.

On Wednesday, news of Arsenal’s bid for Noni Madueke of Chelsea had many fans asking if that meant an end to the reported interest in Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.

With the Gunners already having signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard, as well as submitting bids to sign Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera, it was fair to expect that it might be a case of Madueke or Eze, and not both.

Yet multiple reliable sources are suggesting the Gunners hold an interest in Eze independently of the other bids they’re making for forwards.

The Times report that Madueke’s possible arrival doesn’t affect Arsenal’s interest in Eze, nor the Gunners’ move for a striker. Fabrizio Romano claims the Eze and Madueke deals are separate, and Eze remains a target and keen to join this summer.

Sky Sports report that they’ve been told Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze is independent of their other attacking targets, and Jacob Steinberg reports for The Guardian that the move for Madueke is not expected to end that pursuit.

Ed Aarons reports for the same outlet that Arsenal are expected to step up their attempts to sign Eze, planning to make contact with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish to discuss a potential move.

There are no guarantees, with Parish reportedly unlikely to consider any offers below the player’s £67.5m release clause, and Arsenal evidently hoping to pay less. Eze has two years left on his deal.

At the very least, it seems clear that Arsenal don’t view Madueke and Eze as two different options for the same spot in their squad. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners can afford to sign both, but that’s clearly what they’re hoping will happen.
