NY Giants Standout Slighted in Recent Positional Rankings

Over the past two years, the New York Giants have slowly filled out their roster with exciting young talents on both sides of the field. Despite a strong showing as a rookie, one of their offensive prospects landed an unfavorable spot in recent player rankings.

With their fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft, the Giants took a flier on running back Tyrone Tracy. This move has yielded early dividends for them, as he put together an impressive showing in his first year in the NFL. Tracy's dual-threat abilities were on full display, totaling 839 rushing and 284 receiving yards. This stellar play landed him in impressive company, as he and Saquon Barkley are the only Giants rookie running backs to break 1,000 scrimmage yards.

In a recent column for NFL.com, longtime running back Maurice Jones-Drew ranked all of the league's starting RBs. Tracy found himself on the back end of this list, slotting in at No. 22. Some of the players just ahead of him include Brian Robinson, Alvin Kamara, and Breece Hall.

"Tracy has earned a bigger role in 2025, having stepped up early as a rookie when Devin Singletary missed two games due to injury and ultimately logging 12 starts," Jones-Drew wrote. "The second-year pro is flanked by Singletary and do-it-all rookie Cam Skattebo this fall, but even if Tracy's touch total remains static, I see him improving his efficiency with better quarterback play."

Even though Tracy will be splitting time with multiple backs, he should emerge as the Giants' primary backfield threat. With his ability to have an impact on the ground and in the air, he is one of the more dynamic options in New York's offense.

Heading into the 2025 campaign, Tracy is a player who could take a big step forward in year two. He was a standout in the offense as a rookie, and that was with the team going through some disarray at the quarterback position. That won't be the case this season, as the Giants inked Russell Wilson to a one-year deal in free agency. With a more established talent under center, it should result in a slight boost across the board offensively.

Tracy will attempt to build off his strong first season in a few weeks during training camp.
