Giannis gives lukewarm commitment that shakes Spurs superstar hopes

We finally have actual words from Giannis Antetokounmpo regarding his current situation in Milwaukee. It's crazy that a streamer named IShowSpeed and not an established journalist or insider was able to get the Greek Freak on the record, making any sort of comment about whether he's going to remain a member of the Bucks or not, but here we are.

“Probably. We’ll see. I love Milwaukee.”

That answer was as noncommittal as it gets, but it's not nothing. He does admit his love for the city that embraced him coming out of the draft. That's important to players. But he doesn't outright say yes. That still leaves a little wiggle room for hope if you're still into this idea, but I've increasingly become resistant to the idea of adding Giannis. I'm just over the drama.

Spurs shouldn't hold their breath for Giannis

Cream City's season ended a long time ago, and the NBA Finals have been over for almost a month now. So, far the Bucks have lost Brook Lopez, added Myles Turner, but waived Lillard. As far as impressive moves go, they haven't really cornered the market. Unfortunately for them, that's not going to change much due to the restrictions from the CBA.

They haven't managed their cap situation as well as OKC or San Antonio, so they're ability to make a bunch of moves to satisfy their franchise player is severely compromised. Losing Brook and Lillard but gaining Turner is not enough to move the needle. That should be obvious.

And here's the thing: the Eastern Conference has been beat to hell by injuries to superstars. An an already inferior conference, the path to the top is more open that it's ever been. That means that a team like the one they're building in Milwaukee may actually be able to make some noise in the postseason. Giannis, as a top-3 player in the league, is so talented that you have to consider that possibility.

However, it would be fools gold to fall for that trap. You still wouldn't be guaranteed a Finals bid and if you agree to stay, don't win, and everyone comes back healthy, you're still sitting on an underwhelming roster with teams like Boston and New York hovering above you.

Giannis knows all of this. Yet he's still playing these little games with his future, holding teams hostage. Nothing is worse than the superstar who fakes like he wants to leave then goes radio silent for months in the offseason. I'm over it. The Spurs have the future on their roster already with Victor Wembanyama, and something else more desirable will come their way eventually.
