Liverpool plotting move to sign £100m star they almost signed last summer - it’s a bad idea

**Liverpool want to add more firepower to their attacking ranks but are also set to potentially sell both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.**

It’s been clear for quite some time that Nunez will be sold this summer after failing to live up to the £64m fee paid to Benfica in the summer of 2022.

It will be a sad end to the story as it’s clear that Nunez is well liked by his teammates even if he is not the clinical striker the club needs.

Luis Diaz wants to stay at Liverpool but he also wants a lucrative new contract and the club isn’t willing to give him both. He must either stay at Anfield on the terms of his current contract or find a club willing to pay the £72.5m Liverpool are demanding for his sale.

It’s an unenviable position for the Colombian and Liverpool but the Reds can return for a player they wanted to sign last summer.

Anthony Gordon reportedly told friends that he was keen to join the Reds before a deal collapsed but he could get his chance in this transfer window.

Liverpool “plot” new move for Anthony Gordon

--------------------------------------------

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-liverpool-plot-new-anthony-gordon-move-after-his-two-word-reveal/), Liverpool could take advantage of Newcastle United’s reported plans to sign Jack Grealish and Anthony Elanga to persuade the Magpies to sell Gordon.

They claim that the Scouser remains keen to join the Premier League champions but Newcastle remain adamant they don’t want to part ways with any of their key players.

Furthermore, United reportedly value Gordon at £100m which is silly money for a player that scored just six times in 34 league appearances. Despite being rapid and an efficient dribbler, Gordon is not the world class talent many have convinced themselves he is.

Gordon or Alexander Isak? The right choice is obvious

-----------------------------------------------------

It’s quite simple. If Gordon is valued at £100m, it makes spending £150m on Isak sound like a bargain by comparison.

Of course, there isn’t a reality in which £150m is a cheap price by any stretch of the imagination but if there is a Newcastle player Liverpool would spend £100m+ on, it is _not_ Gordon.
