Alejandro Garnacho came close to joining Napoli in the January transfer window, with Manchester United keen but unable to finalise a deal with the Serie A club.
Since then, the Argentine’s situation at Old Trafford has become increasingly difficult and he’s currently one of five players who are training away from the squad after being told to find new clubs.
Ruben Amorim quickly became frustrated with the talented attacker, who turned 21-years-of-age earlier this month, and now it’s a case of waiting for a club to make an offer, something which doesn’t look remotely imminent.
The English media have tried to drag Napoli back into the picture in recent days, but it was repeatedly reported in Italy last month that the interest had faded and another attempt to sign the Manchester United player is unlikely.
Then came apparent quotes from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Those quotes, carried by UK newspapers, had the club chief saying Garnacho would thrive in Italy, and be twice the player he is at Manchester United.
Quickly, the quotes started to spread in the Italian media, with some confusion about when De Laurentiis would have spoken to UK newspapers, and why he would do so.
Now Napoli have denied it’s happened, informing the media reporting on the club.
[AreaNapoli](https://www.areanapoli.it/interviste/il-napoli-smentisce-le-parole-di-de-laurentiis-su-garnacho_599459.html) is a huge resource for the Serie A side and they have a report which states: _‘Napoli have denied the alleged statements made by president and film entrepreneur Aurelio De Laurentiis. According to the Neapolitan club, the Campania club’s top executive hasn’t spoken to English newspapers and, therefore, didn’t utter those words. Aurelio De Laurentiis, moreover, is keeping a low profile on the transfer market these days.’_
