Rio Ferdinand's eldest son Lorenz has put pen to paper on his first professional contract after the teenager enjoyed a short, but productive work experience loan in the seventh-tier of English football.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper made the switch to Southern League Premier side Havant and Waterlooville in March on a work experience deal.
In short, a work experience deal allows a young player to gain valuable experience in lower league football, with the loan often lasting for a few weeks or months.
On this occasion, Ferdinand joined Shaun North's side for the final two months of the 2024/25 campaign following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski.
Back in March, Lorenz was thrown straight into the starting line-up for their Northern Premier League clash against Marlow FC, and proceeded to make a winning start to his senior career.

The 18-year-old impressed at Oak Tree Road as a hat-trick from Ryan Seager sealed a 3-1 win for the visitors. Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, was pictured watching from the stands.
Lorenz would go on to keep two clean sheets in six unbeaten appearances with Havant and Waterlooville.
Now, ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, the teenager is one of 13 youth prospects to sign professional deals with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion – a club renowned for developing young goalkeepers.
Brighton academy manager Ian Buckman has since opened up on their recent recruits.
"We're pleased to see this cohort of players sign their first professional contracts here, with a number of them at the club from a very young age," he said.
"All of them have already had some form of experience with the under-21s, while a few have been involved with the first team. We look forward to them continuing their careers with us and helping them develop over the coming years."

On his return to Brighton, a statement from Havant and Waterlooville read: “Lorenz went from strength to strength as we went unbeaten during his time with the club as he kept two clean sheets in six games.”
Back in 2023, Lorenz signed a management contract with agency New Era Global Sports. His father, Rio, is as an ambassador and mentor within the company.
"Our eldest is on his own journey in football. Another nice moment signing with @neweraglobalsports, well earned through hard work and dedication." Rio said on Instagram.
"It’s a long road full of ups and downs, so the right and professional support is required - so step forward @neweraglobalsports. Love you Lorenz.”
