Chelsea planning to hijack United’s move for Argentine star

Man United are heavily linked with one Argentine star currently. But, Chelsea are now reported to be planning to hijack the move. The player has already impressed in Premier League and will cost around £40 million this summer.

The star in question here is Emi Martinez of Aston Villa. He is 32 year old Argentine shot-stopper. Martinez has been one of the best keepers in the world recently. He has helped Argentina to win World Cup and Copa America. In addition, he has also played a big role in Villa’s latest success.

Martinez is keen to leave Villa this summer. The Birmingham club is also open to let him leave due to their PSR situation. They want around £40 million for him. As of now, Martinez has been heavily linked with Man United.

United have Andre Onana as the main keeper right now. But, Onana has failed to impress at Old Trafford. He has struggled to keep clean sheets which has raised doubts about his future. Martinez can surely be an upgrade over Onana but now Chelsea have joined the race.

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown had his say about Martinez’s future. He told Football Insider that Chelsea are interested to sign Martinez this summer. He also added that the Blues have better chance of landing the Argentine keeper than the Red Devils.

Brown believes that United will not be able to sign Martinez whilst still having Andre Onana. He added that only few clubs are made aware about the availability of Martinez. One of them is Chelsea who are also in need of new keeper.

The Blues will resume their summer transfer window after Club World Cup final. They are expected to enter the keeper market once again. Earlier, they tried to sign Mike Maignan but failed. They will not try to sign him again and instead will focus on other keepers.
