Manchester United are looking to dramatically reduce their wage bill this summer as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures, sources have told Football Insider.
Ratcliffe previously claimed Man United would have gone “bust by Christmas” if it wasn’t for his efforts to cut costs, which have included charity cuts and halting benefits for ex-players.
The INEOS chief is looking to trim the Premier League side’s wage bill over the coming weeks, with several out-of-favour stars on big-money deals.
United posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million in 2023-24, while their wage bill stood at £365million – the third-highest total in the top flight behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 20-time English champions tightened their projected revenue guidance for 2024-25 to £660-670million last month.
The club’s third-quarter results up until the end of March revealed their wages were down by £20million compared to the same point in 2024.

Man United could get extra £90m after exits
United have already cut £17million from their wage bill after it was confirmed Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof would leave the club, with Jonny Evans taking up a staff role.
Ruben Amorim’s side are keen to move on several players this summer as they look to free up space in the budget.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider United could save up to £90million in wages if they can sell Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Casemiro.
In terms of incomings, the transfer activity has been relatively limited at Old Trafford in the opening six weeks of the window.
The Manchester giants signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5million from Wolves, while teenagers Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik have arrived from Cerro Porteno and Le Havre.
United are unable to offer potential new signings European football following their 15th-place finish in the Premier League table.
