Leeds United notebook - Club chief addresses Diouf transfer claims after Manchester United…

Slavia Prague’s club president has shed more light on the transfer situation of defender El Hadji Malick Diouf amid loose speculation claiming Leeds United hold interest.

There has been no indication that this is true and it’s thought such talk is indeed inaccurate. It’s highly unlikely that Daniel Farke would swoop for another left-back given the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille and the contract renewal of Sam Byram.

Further to this, Slavia’s club chief, Jaroslav Tvrdik, has now played down the notion that 20-year-old Diouf is definitely set for an exit anyway.

Asked by Czech outlet Idnes whether it is certain Diouf will leave, Tvrdik replied: “I am not convinced at all, although there is a lot of interest in him… But we have not reached an agreement.”

Addressing the idea that West Ham United had agreed a fee for Diouf, Tvrdik outlined: “There was a misunderstanding. There was talk of an offer that we should have rejected, but that information is false.

“There were two offers on the table, but neither of them exceeded €20million (£17.2m) in the basic transfer price. We have been saying for a long time that the price for Diouf will be just over €20m. And we do not have such an offer yet.”

While the door may still be open for a rival club to pounce ahead of West Ham, it almost certainly won’t be Leeds.

No gift from Manchester

It’s being widely reported that Manchester United are set to ditch their pre-season tradition of giving gifts to opposition clubs ahead of kick-off during friendlies - with this to start against Leeds United in the first friendly of the summer.

Leeds United have launched their new home shirt for the 2025/26 season as they celebrate a return to the Premier League.

£70 Fanatics

The fierce rivals face off in Stockholm, Sweden on July 19 with both clubs boasting large fanbases in Scandinavia. The pair previously met in Oslo, Norway during the summer of 2023.

On that occasion, Man United did hand over a pennant marking the occasion. However, it seems no gift will be given this time around - though there have been murmurings that money will instead be put towards hosting a drinks reception with Leeds officials.

Wilson transfer ‘ambition’

There have been continual links connecting Callum Wilson with Leeds, though this is mere speculation at this stage. There have been no concrete soundings that United are in the market for him, especially after the arrival of Lukas Nmecha.

The Whites are now swamped with centre-forwards given the likes of Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood have returned from loan spells - though both are expected to be sold. Mateo Joseph faces an uncertain future too amid his request for more game time.

Leeds are after a new marquee striker, and Wilson would not be that. He has left Newcastle United following the expiry of his contract and is looking for his next step having become a free agent.

Speaking to DAZN, the 33-year-old says the Premier League is still on his radar either way. “I mean, obviously, I have ambitions,” he said when asked about prolonging his stay in the top flight.

“I’m close to getting 100 [Premier League] goals and that’s something I’d like to achieve. I still feel fit and hungry.”

Wilson, who has a worrisome injury record, is currently on 88 top tier goals from 239 matches. None of them came in the 18 league games he played in last season.
