After much speculation and fan discussion online, Manchester United have officially confirmed a kit number change for Diogo Dalot ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The change follows a summer of squad reshuffling.
One which has already seen Marcus Rashford lose the number 10 shirt to Matheus Cunha.

As well as three academy stars – Shea Lacey, Bendito Mantato and Reece Munro, who have all been assigned new numbers.
Dalot’s switch had been anticipated, with news circulating of the change throughout Wednesday afternoon.
Especially after his emotional leave following the tragic passing of Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, whose number 20 shirt was retired by Liverpool.
Many fans believed Dalot’s move away from the number 20 could be a tribute to his late friend.
Now, Manchester United have confirmed via the club’s official website that Dalot has permanently switched to the number 2 shirt.
He’ll be taking over the iconic right-back number last worn by Victor Lindelof before his summer departure.

Dalot wore the number 20 since arriving from Porto in 2018.
However, his new shirt is more fitting to his position – and one he has also donned for Portugal.
The number 2 jersey carries a strong legacy at Old Trafford, previously worn by club greats like Gary Neville, Wes Brown, and Rafael.
Dalot returned to Carrington this week following his UEFA Nations League triumph with Portugal.
The full-back was spotted wearing the number 2 in his first training session back in Manchester.
As he prepares for the new season under Ruben Amorim, Dalot is expected to remain a key figure in United’s back line, having excelled across both flanks previously.
His experience and nous will continue to prove essential, despite calls from fans and pundits to sign a new right-sided wing-back.
