‘Aggressive’: Manchester United talent completes loan exit as Jonny Evans agrees deal with his former teammate

Manchester United talent Sonny Aljofree has completed a move to Notts County and will spend the season on loan with the League Two side.

Manchester United are always active when it comes to sending players out on loan to EFL clubs.

That is likely to be the case again this summer, with Dan Gore wanted by Rotherham United once again after a frustrating spell with the Millers last season.

Gabriele Biancheri is open to a loan exit, while European exits could materialise with Lausanne-Sport interested in taking Sekou Kone on loan.

One loan has now been completed, with Sonny Aljofree securing a season-long loan move to Notts County.

Notts County secure Sonny Aljofree deal

Reports earlier this week suggested that Notts County were in talks to sign Aljofree on loan for the season.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Accrington Stanley, so he already has a year of League Two action under his belt.

Aljofree bagged three goals in 25 games for Accrington, having previously spent two loan spells with Altrincham in the National League.

Aljofree now returns to League Two and will hope to play a big role for Notts County, who finished in the play-off places last season.

United have wished Aljofree the best of luck at Meadow Lane, vowing to watch his progress closely.

Jonny Evans became United’s head of loans and pathways last week and he will have signed off on Aljofree’s move.

Intriguingly, Evans knows all about new Notts County boss Martin Paterson, having played for Northern Ireland together.

Evans and Paterson played 13 times together on the international stage, and the former United defender is now trusting his former teammate with Aljofree’s development.

Notts County celebrate Aljofree move

Aljofree’s move has been praised by Notts County director of football Roberto Gagliardi.

Speaking on Notts County’s official website, Gagliardi praised Aljofree as an ‘aggressive’ defender who can offer quality when building play from defence.

Gagliardi also highlighted Aljofree’s versatility while claiming to have beaten League One clubs in the race for his signature.

“Sonny has all the traits of a modern-day defender – balancing an aggressive playing style with the ability to distribute the ball from the back,” said Gagliardi.

“He’s capable of playing anywhere across the defensive line, mainly being deployed in a back four for Manchester United but often on the right of a back three during his impressive loan at Accrington.

“Sonny’s maturity is reflected in the leadership roles he’s been given and the high esteem he’s held in by United. Combined with the fact he’s the son of former Plymouth defender Hasney Aljofree, he has a very strong footballing pedigree.

“We faced strong competition from a number of League One clubs to sign him, and we look forward to supporting his continued development,” he added.

David Hughes’ Newport County will be the first League Two opponents for Aljofree at Notts County, with the former United Under-21 coach coming up against the United loanee on the opening day.
