Among the many familiar faces to return to first-team training with Arsenal on Wednesday was 15-year-old Max Dowman, amid the expectation that the young midfielder will play a role for Mikel Arteta’s side in pre-season.

John Cross reported for the Mirror in May that Arsenal had told Dowman he’d be part of the first-team squad next season, and that he’ll be on the tour of Asia this summer.

There were even some suggestions that Dowman might already have made his debut for Arsenal in 2024/25, but he was ineligible because he was too young.

Chris Wheatley reports for Sporting News that Dowman is attracting interest from multiple top clubs in light of his impressive form for the Arsenal academy, but he wants to stay where he is.

Wheatley claims talks are already underway over a pre-professional contract for Dowman, to be signed when he turns 16 in December.

The same report confirms that Dowman will be part of Arsenal’s pre-season tour, adding that he’s expected to feature in domestic cup competitions this season.

There’s still a way to go before Dowman becomes a fully-fledged first-team regular, but Arsenal are evidently hoping to show him that there’s a pathway to make it there in north London.
