Aaron Cresswell has found a new club after leaving West Ham as Wrexham prepare to taste transfer defeat.

The North Wales outfit are back in the Championship for the first time since 1982, and they appear to be as ambitious as ever, having been linked with several high-profile players already this summer.

Cresswell’s West Ham exit was confirmed several weeks ago now, and clubs have circled to try and secure the signing of the free agent, with Wrexham among them.

However, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side now seem destined to miss out on the veteran left-back, who has found himself a new club.

Cresswell is set to join Stoke City

Cresswell was an outstanding servant to West Ham over the years, making more than 350 competitive appearances in the famous Claret and Blue.

The defender will now be playing his football in new colours for the first time in over a decade after being let go by Graham Potter’s side, and a decision has been made as to which club he will join.

The 35-year-old is set to sign for Championship outfit Stoke City, as reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (10 July).

Cresswell is understood to be back in the North West following his departure from E20, and it now seems as though the bet365 Stadium will become his new home.

Wrexham had been in the hunt to sign the Liverpudlian, but the Red Dragons are thought to have dithered too much in their pursuit, which has allowed Stoke to swoop in.

It is expected that Cresswell will be announced as a Stoke player shortly.

Championship move will be good for Cresswell

Cresswell may have departed the London Stadium this summer, but he is still a perfectly capable player, and he should be an excellent option at Championship level.

Cresswell’s West Ham stats

The veteran defender has consistently churned out reliable displays in the Premier League over the years, and his exceptional set-piece delivery would be a huge asset to any side.

He may be entering the twilight of his career, but he still has plenty left to give, and it is undoubtedly a blow for Wrexham to have lost out in their bid to add him to their squad.
