Report: 'Extraordinary' star agrees £200,000-a-week deal to join Arsenal

Arsenal are thought to be closing in on a move for Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres, according to various reports - and the Swedish talisman will earn a wage of £200,000-a-week if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer after an 'extraordinary' campaign in Portugal.

Gyokeres moved to Sporting two years ago for £20.5million from Coventry City, instantly hitting the ground running and notching 97 goals in 102 games for the Lisbon-based outfit, seeing them undergo their most successful period of the 21st century - prompting the Premier League giants to pursue a move for his talents.

The report by talkSPORT states that Gyokeres is set to earn an estimated £200,000-a-week with Arsenal if he signs on the dotted line with the Gunners.

Arsenal are set to end their three-year-long search for a new talisman once they snap up the Swedish star, having already agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with Mikel Arteta's men.

The report further claims that an Arsenal delegation is in Portugal, ready to tie up Gyokeres' signing after opting to land the former Brighton striker ahead of RB Leipzig prodigy Benjamin Sesko, who they also had a look at last year due to his £55million release clause before he signed a new contract at the Bundesliga club.

Gyokeres' potential deal will put him amongst the top earners at the Emirates Stadium, although top-earning star Kai Havertz will still pocket an extra £90,000-a-week than his striking partner, according to talkSPORT.

Gyokeres was also wanted by former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim in a bid to join him at Manchester United, but his long-term project at Old Trafford didn't match Gyokeres' current ambitions of playing in the Champions League and challenging for titles, which he will surely do if he makes the move to Arsenal with the club having finished second in the top-flight for the past three seasons.

Gyokeres scored an outstanding 39 goals in just 33 games for the Primeira Liga side in the league, seeing them take the top gong again and winning the Portuguese Cup - as well as scoring a hat-trick past Manchester City in the Champions League to show that he can do it against English teams.
