Villa News Speaking to Bryan King

Jack Grealish could make a long-awaited return to Aston Villa this summer.

The B6 academy graduate left to join Manchester City for a fee of £100million back in 2021, which was a record outlay for a British player at the time.

Grealish has been linked with a Villa return this summer, with his relationship with Pep Guardiola now seeming irreparable.

The likes of Tottenham and Everton have also shown an interest in signing the England star, but he could still be destined for an emotional return to his boyhood club.

Grealish and Morgan Rogers could swap places

Villa have now emerged as the leading candidates to sign Grealish, with Manchester City seemingly desperate to show the Englishman the door before the new campaign gets underway.

Guardiola’s side are prepared to allow Grealish to leave for a cut-price fee, but it remains to be seen whether Villa are prepared to meet their demands.

Ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that a potential player-plus-cash deal involving Morgan Rogers could be on the cards to secure Grealish’s homecoming.

“I would think there’s a big chance Grealish returns to Villa,” King said.

“I’d imagine that would suit everybody. The people at Villa like Grealish. He funded a lot of transfers when he was sold for big money, and it won’t cost that much to bring him back.

“Perhaps Manchester City will look to bring a player the other way. I always think of Rogers, whether City think of that, I don’t know, but it could be Rogers going one way and Grealish the other, plus cash.”

“It’s a doable deal, but it’s whether Emery wants to do it.”

Villa won’t want to lose Rogers

Rogers’ future with Aston Villa has been up in the air this summer.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a possible exit on several occasions, with the Villans expected to need a big sale to balance out their financial troubles.

However, the PSR deadline for last season passed at the end of June. As a result, there will surely now be no desire whatsoever for Monchi and Co. to facilitate Rogers’ departure.

As such, if Villa want to add Grealish to Unai Emery’s squad, they should look to do so without using Rogers as a potential wakeweight in the deal.

Grealish’s return would be a major statement of intent from the second city side, and Emery would have frightening options in his attack if they could keep Rogers alongside their returning star.
