The Chiefs players will report to training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 20 and the first practice will be held two days later.
But it won’t be a full first week of work for the Chiefs players, because there will be no practice on July 26.
That is one day after the movie “Happy Gilmore 2” will open, and that could be a happy coincidence.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a role in the Adam Sandler film about a hockey player turned golfer, and his teammates are certainly going to be excited to see the movie.
During an interview on “Up & Adams,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked if he was excited for the sequel to one of Sandler’s biggest movies.
Mahomes most certainly plans to see the movie.
“I mean, first off, it’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ I mean, ‘Happy Gilmore,’ iconic movie in my childhood,” Mahomes said. “Still watch it to this day, and then having Travis Kelce in there and I’ve heard his part’s great. He won’t tell me a lot, but I’ve heard his part’s great. So let’s get everybody together. I want to rent out of movie theater and let it be a team, bonding experience.”
Kelce has a cameo in the film, which is a follow up to the 1996 comedy.
There are a couple of options in St. Joseph should the Chiefs players decide to see the flick there. The Regal Hollywood has multiple screens, while the Trail Theater plays classic movies.
One of those might work for a team bonding experience or the players could buzz down to Kansas City to watch Kelce.
Chiefs players are used to watching film, but this would be a much different experience.
