"Medical tomorrow" - Spurs close in on deal to sign 'special player' after Kudus agreement

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as they continue to reinforce their ranks ahead of next season.

According to The Telegraph, “Gibbs-White will have a Tottenham medical tomorrow. Spurs will trigger his £60 million release clause.”

The North Londoners have been aggressively trying to strengthen their roster after finishing 17th in the Premier League last term, dismissing coach Ange Postecoglou.

The Spurs hierarchy has backed new boss Thomas Frank with Premier League-proven additions like Mohammed Kudus and now Gibbs-White.

Interestingly, Manchester City were considering a move for Gibbs-White, whom former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo referred to as a ‘special player’, before Tottenham swooped in.

Details of Spurs’ interest only emerged today, and a medical is already in place.

Tottenham are moving with intent as they look to return to the upper echelon of the Premier League and make an impression in the UEFA Champions League.

The addition of Gibbs-White and Kudus, two players who are better centrally, is brilliant, but it leaves questions about James Maddison’s future.

The England international has been the playmaker for this Tottenham team for years, and now, he has two players competing for his slot.

He is also at a disadvantage as he will not be fit for pre-season training, where the two new additions can stake their claim for a starting berth.

Also, while Tottenham turned heads with these signings, they have yet to plug a crucial hole in the squad.

One of the primary issues Tottenham faced last season was the lack of a top-class holding midfielder.

Yves Bissouma had a disappointing season, and Rodrigo Bentancur, while servicable, is not the solution.

Spurs must enter the market for a physically robust and technically efficient holding midfielder to add steel and screen the defence.

Frank had Christian Norgaard at Brentford and will undoubtedly want a general to marshal his Tottenham engine room.
