Brice Sensabaugh sets Summer League record in Utah Jazz win

Brice Sensabaugh's brief NBA career has been gradually progressing. After being picked in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, the former Ohio State one-and-done star has earned a larger role during his first two seasons in the league.

After playing in 71 games for the Jazz last year, Senabaugh hopes this season will be his best yet. Early signs suggest he's on the right path.

On Monday, Utah defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 112-111 in Summer League action. A game-ending buzzer-beater could have tied the game if GG Jackson had not had his foot on the three-point line. The Jazz came back from 17 points down, setting the team record for most points scored in a Summer League game.

As part of the wild game, Sensabaugh put on a show, scoring 37 points on 9-of-14 shooting and hitting six of his nine three-point attempts. He also had four rebounds, two steals and one assist to lead his team to victory. The 37 points not only marked a career high, surpassing the 34 points he scored against the Miami Heat in January, but also set an SLC Summer League record.

Sensabaugh showcased his versatile skills during the record-setting performance. The forward displayed his range and step-back jumper, along with his ability to attack the basket. On defense, he was active with his hands, reaching into passing lanes to force turnovers.

After being drafted No. 28 overall, Sensabaugh played in 32 games as a rookie, starting 11 of them, while also appearing in 16 games for the Jazz's G League team, the Salt Lake City Stars. He averaged 18.3 minutes per game, with 7.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists for Utah in 2023-24.

Last season, Sensabaugh spent nearly the entire year with the NBA team, playing only one game for the Stars. He played in 71 games for the Jazz, starting 15 and averaging 20.2 minutes per game. Sensabaugh increased his scoring to 10.9 points per game but saw declines in his assists (1.5) and rebounds (3) compared to his rookie year.

Sensabaugh aims for an even bigger role in 2025-26 as Utah looks to return to the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2022. Along with Sensabaugh, the Jazz have plenty of young talent, including center Walker Kessler, forward Kyle Filipowski and guards Walter Clayton Jr., Isaiah Collier, Keyonte George and Ace Bailey, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
