Report: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could miss out on released Man Utd defender as ‘desperate’ rivals make approach

Manchester United said goodbye to defender Victor Lindelof earlier this summer as his Old Trafford contract came to an end.

Ruben Amorim is hoping to bring major changes to his Manchester United squad this summer.

Amorim has only one senior addition on board so far, after Matheus Cunha joined United early in the transfer window.

Diego Leon has arrived from Cerro Porteno, but the Paraguayan is one for the future rather than an immediate first-team player.

Departures could unlock incoming business for United, and two defenders have already moved on.

Jonny Evans is staying at United as loans and pathways manager, having announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Trabzonspor make Victor Lindelof move

Fellow central defender Victor Lindelof left United as his contract came to an end earlier this summer.

The Swede joined United from Benfica in 2017 as Jose Mourinho lured him to Old Trafford.

Lindelof did not quite live up to the expectations placed on him, but still played almost 300 games for United across eight seasons.

United and Lindelof have now separated, and the 30-year-old is receiving significant interest as a free agent.

Fotomac in Turkiye report that Trabzonspor have made an approach to sign Lindelof on a free transfer.

Trabzonspor are described as being ‘desperate’ for the signing of a new centre-back and had been chasing Rennes defender Christopher Wooh.

Wooh has rejected the move, though, and Trabzonspor are now turning to Lindelof following his United exit.

Whether Lindelof would be interested remains to be seen, especially as Trabzonspor only finished seventh in the Super Lig last season and do not have European football on offer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could miss out on Lindelof

Trabzonspor will hope to win the race and deal a blow to Lindelof’s former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Reports from Sabah in May claimed that Besiktas were hoping to sign Lindelof, believing his connection to Solskjaer would secure the deal.

Just over six weeks on, Lindelof is still without a club, and Besiktas have failed to agree a deal as things stand.

Lindelof will be weighing up his options, but with the new season starting in August, he will be keen to join a new club very soon.

Turkiye could be his destination, but Benfica have shown an interest in re-signing Lindelof, and he surely won’t be short of options.
