Browns' Shedeur Joins Another QB Competition in Premature Trade Idea

The Cleveland Browns will ultimately choose between one of their four quarterbacks to be the starter, but until then, it remains an open competition between a 40-year-old, a let-down first-round prick, and two rookies who had high-profile college careers.

Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are each expected to square off at Browns training camp this summer, but some sites can't wrap their head around this crowded a quarterback room, leaving them no choice but to predict the Cleveland to move on from one of them.

That may happen ... but if Kevin Stefanski and the coaching staff believe one hasn't proven enough to earn a spot on the roster, it won't be until after training camp. Nonetheless, a trade could be in order to open up more elbow room at the position.

Sportsbook BetUS cooked up the idea of moving a Browns signal-caller from one competition to another in a trade that sends popular rookie Sanders to the Indianapolis Colts to battle for first-team snaps with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.

Writer Johnathan Adams acknowledged how Indy - and just about every team - passed on Sanders multiple times in the 2025 NFL Draft, resulting to his eventual pick by Cleveland in Round 5.

However, the argument for a trade is that Richardson and Daniels each offer very little as a potential long-term starter. So why not add another prospect who could fight for a job and potentially perform better than the two underwhelming former first-rounders?

Or at least I think that's the reasoning they're going for ... beyond quoting Shedeur's "legendary" rap verses.

Sanders, who has already signed a four-year rookie contract with Cleveland, would be a perfect prototype for a buy-low/sell-high draft pick, but with as much attention as Shedeur brings the Browns' brand, it's highly unlikely that he gets traded - whether he contributes on the field or not.

Obviously, him winning the job is a romantic end to the story - and it's still possible, regardless of any trade value Sanders might possess - but we won't find out how that book ends until we at least get through training camp...

Meaning we'll need to see Shedeur and the others compete later this month and avoid any premature trade before that.
