Patrick Rooney Jr. is a member of the Rooney family and a first cousin of Art Rooney II, and he is not a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason moves.
Patrick Rooney is not affiliated with the Steelers organization and does not work with them, but is a family member, and believes the team’s entire offseason reeked of desperation. The Baltimore Ravens will ‘steamroll’ them this year.
“Do you think even if you had Aaron Rodgers from 10 years ago that you’re gonna be able to compete with Joe Burrow?” Rooney said on the PBKC Podcast. “And you’re gonna be able to compete with Lamar Jackson? … What in God’s name does it make you think that you’re gonna be able to compete with Baltimore or Cincinnati? Baltimore is just a better team … I think they finally realized by kicking the crap out of us. They are gonna steamroll us this year."
Rooney also would not pay star pass rusher T.J. Watt, who he sees as a gigantic risk coming off a down year with 11.5 sacks. Watt will turn 31 in October.
“T.J. is a great player, great Steeler, but it’s insane to pay him anything right now,” Rooney said on the Palm Beach Kennel Club. “Absolutely insane. He’s 31 years old. But again, if you’re going all-in this year, then you’re going to have to re-sign him. You’re making moves right now that you’re trying to do something this year. That, to me, based on anything you’ve seen the last few years, seems insane.”
The Steelers appear to believe they have made moves that could help them break their playoff losing streak this year, which is why they have shuffled the deck so many times this offseason.
Pittsburgh has not won a playoff game since 2017, and the Mike Tomlin-led groups have lost six straight playoff games over that span.
