Ekitike transfer takes another twist as a new update is shared on Isak: Thursday's Liverpool transfer round-up

Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of players since the transfer window opened up at the start of June.

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have already spent close to £200million on bolstering their ranks thus far with it feeling unlikely that they’re going to stop there.

A couple of the players mentioned recently have long been linked with an Anfield switch and now, since the futures of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are still up in the air, those moves could be getting closer.

Here, Rousing the Kop have collected three of the biggest transfer stories to have emerged from Anfield on Thursday, 10 June.

Rodrygo’s potential move to Liverpool may have hit a stumbling block

Since the start of the 2024-25 season, fans and pundits alike were questioning whether Liverpool had enough firepower in their ranks to compete.

Although some players such as Nunez didn’t perform up to standard, Mohamed Salah more than made up for it by contributing to 57 goals across all competitions.

As mentioned, however, both Nunez and Diaz look likely to be on their way out of Anfield, leaving the Reds somewhat light up front.

This has caused rumours to surface around the future of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo who has been cast aside by Xabi Alonso recently.

However, Alonso has since shared that Rodrygo not playing was a tactical decision, rather than one about his future.

Luis Diaz has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool

Diaz’s Liverpool future has had question marks hanging over it for some time now.

The Colombia international is entering the final two years of his deal with the Anfield outfit and with no extension in sight, he’s looking to explore pastures new.

Following links with teams such as Bayern Munich and Barcelona, it seems like Diaz has now formally handed in a transfer request, even though the Anfield outfit are still reluctant to sell.

Slot sees the attacker as a key cog in his plans and doesn’t want to lose him unless he’s presented with an offer that he can’t turn down.

Newcastle are now interested in signing Hugo Ekitike which could open up a move for Alexander Isak

Hugo Ekitike is another player who has consistently been linked with a move away from his current club.

The striker had the best season of his career during the 2024-25 campaign and has now found himself on the shortlist of some of the Premier League’s most successful teams.

Now, however, it seems like Newcastle have also thrown their hat into the ring to sign the Frenchman this summer.

The striker is only 23 years old and still has plenty of room to grow but at the moment, Ekitike’s £85million price tag feels somewhat steep.

But, if they do choose to sign him, it could open up the doors for Liverpool to swoop in and get their dream striker target, Alexander Isak.

It’s clear from Thursday’s transfer round-up alone that Ekitike is a man in demand.

The striker has finally had a breakout season and has managed to live up to the potential he showed in the early stages of his career.

And now, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea after him, Fabrizio Romano has shared that things have finally started to get “moving” in the race for Ekitike.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the sought-after Frenchman but at the moment, he feels like one of the most wanted players on the planet.
