Leeds United's hunt for £19.8m-rated transfer in crucial position hit with unique twist

Leeds United’s attempts to strengthen in goal could see them turn to Lyon’s Lucas Perri, but their reinstated top flight status makes matters much more complex.

Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League last season came in spite of the situation in goal under Daniel Farke, and that cannot be allowed to continue heading into next season.

The club are clearly combing through scouting reports of players across Europe in order to find the best and most cost-effective solution, with links to players far and wide to resolve this glaring issue.

Lucas Perri on Leeds United shortlist for new goalkeeper transfer

Amongst the multiple players linked with a move to Elland Road is Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri, with the French giants currently in a seriously uncertain position in Ligue 1.

In case you hadn’t already read about it, Lyon’s massive debts saw them relegated to France’s Ligue 2, leading to speculation regarding several players and possible exits.

Star man Rayan Charki has already left to Manchester City, while Alexandre Lacazette and Said Benrahma have both headed to Saudi Arabian club Neom SC, and Perri could be the latest to leave as Leeds consider a move.

The 27-year-old Brazilian had a save percentage of 74.4% in 24/25 while his performance against post-shot expected goals exceeded that of Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson among others.

It had also been claimed in France that the ‘keeper was edging closer to an unnamed Premier League transfer to the tune of £19.8million.

Fresh Lyon, Ligue 1 twist casts doubt over Leeds United’s Lucas Perri transfer chances

As much as Leeds may have thought they were alerted to a bargain signing, their chances of striking on Lyon’s grave situation have been dealt a blow.

That’s because Lyon’s appeal to be reinstated in Ligue 1 has been successful, meaning they won’t be relegated and their possible fire sale may have been averted.

The French side still have the issue of outstanding debts and that could still force their hand with player sales, including Perri, but their position becomes stronger in convincing players to stay now that they are remaining a top flight side.

Leeds United ought to act fast on goalkeeper pursuit with multiple viable options

Perri would certainly be a big improvement between the sticks for Leeds and it’s about time that the club started to hone in on the goalkeeper position.

It’s the most obvious area we need to improve upon if we want to stay in the Premier League, and we can’t afford to let targets come and go.

Perri is one of multiple that Leeds have been linked with, alongside Vanja Milinkovic-Savic notably, who are very good additions if the club do end up chasing them down.
